Austrian director Philipp M. Krenn began his artistic training as a soloist with the Vienna Boys’ Choir. His first graduate studies took him in a completely different direction – undertaking a degree in process engineering at the Vienna Technical University. Shortly before completing this degree, Krenn decided to return to the theatre – obtaining an acting degree at the Vienna Conservatorium. He then worked as an actor and learnt the director’s craft as assistant to world renowned directors like Robert Carsen, David Alden, Christine Mielitz, Sven Eric Bechtolf, Simon Stone at the Theater an der Wien, the Wiener Festwochen, the Statesopera unter den Linden, the Opera Bastille Paris, det kongelige Teater Copenhagen and the Salzburg Festival. He worked as a Co-Director with Philipp Stölzl, Alvis Hermanis, Damiano Michieletto at the Salzburg Festival, Semperoper Dresden, the Staatsopera Munich, the Tetrao La Fenice at Venice and the Bregenz Festival. Krenn has directed works for companies including the State Theatre in Wiesbaden, and Braunschweig, Theater an der Wien, Neue Oper Wien and the Styrian Autumn Festival in Graz and the Vienna Volksoper.
